Popular Science Magazine with 3D-cover
Popular Science, a Bonnier Corp. publication, is the first magazine within the United States to use Augmented Reality technology to enhance its cover image. The July cover of the magazine utilizes innovative technology supplied by metaio in the form of a specially-developed software program for Popular Science. Together with a PC/Mac and a webcam, the software called "Unifeye Viewer" lets the reader view the Popular Science cover in 3-D.
Simply holding the July Popular Science cover up to a Web camera will bring a 3-D image to life. Users will see wind turbines, which Popular Science highlights as an important clean-energy solution, pop up from their screen. Once the image is activated, users can interact with the wind turbines, causing the turbine blades to spin by blowing air onto the webcam microphone.
