MUNICH October 17, 2011 - Who doesn't want to take an adventurous travel through time? Especially when you can take it from the comfort of your home with just a TV and a Smartphone. The popular German television show "Galileo" of ProSieben invites its audience to an interactive Augmented Reality (AR) TV broadcast for the second time. This will air for one week, starting on October 17th up to October 21st 2011. With the help of Augmented Reality you can collect virtual Gold-Taler directly from the TV screen and via a daily quiz. As you compete with other players you can progress from a simple farmer to a lord of a castle. All you need is the "Galileo Zeitreise" app for Smartphones, which can be downloaded for free at the Apple iTunes App Store. To interactively take part, you only need to point the Smartphone camera directly at the TV screen during the TV show. Android users need the app junaio, which can be downloaded for free at the Android Marketplace.
ProSieben was the first broadcast station worldwide to bring Augmented Reality to Television in January 2011 - with an interactive "Galileo"-quiz. During that period 250.000 viewers downloaded metaio's free Augmented Reality browser junaio and took part in the quiz.
This time users will be able to access the experience through a standalone mobile app "Galileo-Zeitreise", based on metaio's junaio Plugin technology. The goal is to collect as many Gold-Taler as possible to move up in the medieval status - in the best case to a Castle Lord. There are two different ways to collect the Galileo-Taler. During the broadcast differently sized Taler bags are hidden. As soon as the viewers see one, they have to hold their Smartphone with the activated app up to the Taler on the screen in order to collect them. The other way to collect Taler is via the daily Middle Ages quiz. Every day there are ten questions with increasing level of difficulty. The more right answers, the more Taler you get.
The application was developed using metaio's software by Kreativagentur Thomas, who planned and implemented the experience in cooperation with the Galileo team. "In this complex cross-media application, we successfully integrated the newest junaio 3.0 features like the fast image recognition and the instant triggering of events and animations as well as merge those with other current web technologies," says Kreativagentur Thomas Founder and Managing Partner, Kai Thomas. "This way the viewers can live and with a lot of fun experience that we are able to creatively process technical content and deliver it with a high technical claim. In addition to the latest AR-technology this also includes a high quality graphical staging of the app and the surroundings."
Dr. Thomas Alt, CEO of metaio, says "Once again ProSieben "Galileo" proves its pioneering role in the use of new and effective media technologies. And we at metaio are happy that our technology, thanks to Kreativagentur Thomas, was applied in such an exciting and entertaining way."
