Prototyping

High-precision digital mockups in combination with external sensors

Due to shorter product life cycles and the rising complexity in automotive construction and design, ease of comparison between actual prototypes and the CAD 3D model is one of the keys to reducing time and cost. In combination with standard measurement devices, measuring arms for example, metaio Engineer creates the ability to superimpose virtual 3D models directly onto the actual image of the related prototype. The required camera system is mounted directly to the measuring arm, allows an accurate superimposition of the related CAD data and 3D model and may reveal deviations, which can be measured and documented.

Examples

  • Determine Deviations
  • Collision Detection
  • Build Quality Analysis

Benefits

  • Faster visual verification of potential error sources
  • Reduce/replace the need for physical prototypes
  • Reliable basis for making decisions

Factory & Facility Planning

Visualization and verification of planning states, on the spot or at your desk

Using AR for factory planning allows the designer and the decision makers to have an overview of the digital factory on the real construction site. By using AR, spatial requirements for maintenance can be evaluated, collisions or planning faults can be detected and a multitude of concepts can be visualized.

Examples

  • Plan machine layouts & operative spaces
  • Plan working environment
  • Compare planning alternatives

Benefits

  • Early detection of planning faults
  • Reduces time and costs for planning
  • Reliable basis for making decisions

KUKA Systems

KUKA Systems is able to realize the required modifications "within runtime", so to say. This means that the integration works take place within the short downtime on weekends ...more

Assembly & Maintenance

Virtual instructions on the surface of the actual product

By using Augmented Reality it is possible to help the worker to have instructions directly on an element they want to repair. They can access documentation by pointing towards an object, get and read the procedure step by step to understand how to assemble or disassemble parts. By using AR you reduce the training time and the assembly and manipulation error rate.

Examples

  • Visualize assembly/disassembly steps
  • Show process information
  • Live instructions for repair and service personnel

Benefits

  • Embeds quality control in the process
  • Reduces training time in assembly and maintenance
  • Intuitive product experience

Education & Training

Understanding of products and elements becomes a natural experience

By using AR, it is possible to visualize digital information on an element and visualize process and complex parts. This visualization allows faster and better understanding of complex products and processes.

Examples

  • Trainings
  • Workshops
  • Presentations

Benefits

  • Simplifies communication
  • Better understanding of complex products and processes
  • Possibility to display elements or procedures that are internal or not visible from outside

Design Check

Assessing virtual content at different product development stages

By visualizing CAD data on a real object it is possible to evaluate the different design alternatives and to detect the design fault, to measure discrepancies between real and digital objects, to communicate with different services and to get the real perception of the new design.

Examples

  • Evaluate design alternatives
  • Visualize simulation results
  • Get overall look-and-feel

Benefits

  • Analysis based on actual proportions
  • Early detection of design faults
  • Simplifies discussion between stakeholders and deciders

Construction Site Planning

Visible results before the first stone is set

With the power of Augmented Reality, architects and construction personnel can overlay digital information onto the physical real-world environment. From planning stage through building phase, blueprints may be compared against reality to provide an overall impression, detect possible collisions and support decision makers as well as customers of future projects.

Examples

  • Visualize on-site logistics
  • Check building site preparation
  • Align with circumjacent housing

Benefits

  • Gives you general impression regarding urban development
  • Provides task-related information on the spot
  • Reduce simulation costs
