Challenge

Based on the success of the Augmented Reality Campaign, German TV station Prosieben again devised an interactive AR adventure. This time, the audience was sent on a journey to medieval times. The audience was able to play this AR game during the live broadcasting of the for a chance to win exciting prizes.

Solution

metaio partner Kreativagentur Thomas designed and developed a first of its kind application based on the junaio plugin. Thanks to a very robust markerless tracking, the audience could track TV screens with their mobile devices and win virtual gold coins for their participation. Furthermore, through answering questions about medieval history after the broadcasting, the audience could gather further gold coins.

Conclusion

The feedback on the five episodes of the show was very positive. More than 51.000 active users took part in the AR game, and the majority of them returned to participate again over the course of the campaign.. Almost 5.000 users used the app to register for the competition. Furthermore the application was ranked third place in the most downloaded entertainment apps category in Germany. The figures show the interest of the audience for Augmented Reality and are proof of the successful application of interactive AR in television.
