The challenge was to use Augmented Reality to make interaction with the OTTO retail catalog and its products possible. The web-based application allows the user to choose randomly between the pages he would like to look at.
The pages of the mytrend catalog provide access to different movies related to the corresponding catalog page. Depending on the content and the page, different kinds of interactions are possible. The idea is to use the catalog to navigate through the frames of a video. The software inside the browser recognizes the catalog page in front of the camera and presents the appropriate content on a microsite. The various interactions are also controlled via the Flash-based application.
"Integrating Augmented Reality we explore new ways of product presentation and give our customers an added value. Augmented Reality has a great potential especially for e-commerce," explains Dr. Rainer Hillebrand CIO of OTTO.
